Family Education
Family Education is an important part of the program at Beth Sholom Hebrew School. Several times a year, parents meet their children for part of the morning for a joint learning activity. Each program is designed to promote parent - child dialogue around a Jewish theme. Previous programs have included:
- Dora the Explorer explores Beth Sholom Synagogue - a scavenger hunt sends our JK-grade 2 students and their parents to a variety of locations in the synagoue where they discover some of our stained glass windows, Hebrew words, cities in Israel, etc.
- The Wonder of the Aleph-Bet included coloring aleph-bet tee shirts and learning about some of the things Hebrew letters can do.
- Making Mezuzot- a program where the participants build a mezuzah and study the texts found inside.
- Preparing for Pesach - By playing the Seder Board Game, families discover the meaning of each aspect of the Passover seder as well as creating some new readings which they may want to add to their seder.
- Haroset from Around the World - families make Haroset from Yemen, Turkey, Israel, Morocco and other countries. After a taste test, the group votes on their favorite kind.
