 The Beth Sholom Playtime Nursery has been operation for over 26 years. Beth Sholom has provided a warm, friendly place for young parents and grandparents; their children and grandchildren to come together. Our Playtime Nursery with its unique twist is one of the most successful programs for toddlers in the city. Parents or grandparents must attend the program with their child or grandchild. This program was developed many years ago as we saw a need for new parents to be able to meet each other in a Synagogue environment . This also gave the children an opportunity to interact with other children in a larger social environment, sometimes for the first time. Changing family dynamics have resulted in many families having two working parents. Thus, grandparents often become the caregivers. To be responsive to the needs of young Jewish families, we started a "BUBBIE AND ME" session this year. One morning a week is reserved for the new "Bubbie and Me" program and caters to children age 1 to 3. The other mornings are for parents and their children. Two groups are available, one for children 1- 2 years old and the other group for children 2 - 3 years old. The program starts after the High Holy Days in the fall and ends the following June. Each child and parent or grandparent register for one session per week based on the age of the child. In order to provide a safe and friendly environment, each session is restricted to a maximum of 15 children plus their parent or grandparent. Qualified and experienced leaders facilitate the programs that are based on proven principles of early childhood education, are age appropriate and support the child's social, intellectual and physical development. Our stimulating atmosphere stretches your child's abilities and imagination in a warm and supportive environment. A typical morning consists of free play, arts and crafts, circle time, story time, active games and that very important juice and cookie time. Once a month a music specialist comes into each group. Jewish themes and holidays are integrated into the daily programs as they come up in the calendar. The formula for the Playtime Nursery must be working as we are sold out year after year. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Synagogue members receive preferential rates and special early registration.
