WELCOME TO Karen Goodis who recently joined our staff as the Principal and Family Educator of our Hebrew School. Karen grew up in Poughkeepsie, NY in a Jewishly active family where both of her parents are past presidents of the congregation. She has a BA from Vassar College where she majored in religion and education and an MA in Hebrew Education from the Rhea Hirsch School of Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles as well as an MS in Education from the University of Southern California.
Karen has worked in Toronto since 1976 at numerous congregations including Holy Blossom Temple, Temple Har Zion and Temple Sinai and served as the Principal at Shaar Shalom Synagogue for ten years. Karen directs a synagogue outreach project for UJA Federation on a part-time basis as well.
In 2001 she received an honorary doctorate from Hebrew Union College in recognition for her dedication to Jewish education.
Karen is widely published in various professional journals, regularly conducts workshops in Family Education for the Board of Jewish Education and has chaired the Supplementary Schools Principals Council twice.
