Rabbi Flanzraich is a graduate of Bar Ilan University in Tel Aviv and, in 1992, received his ordination from the Israeli Chief Rabbinate. Since 1998, Rabbi Flanzraich has served as the Senior Rabbi of Beth Sholom Synagogue. Over the years, Beth Sholom has become a central point of Jewish life in Toronto, particularly for many young Jewish families who make their home in the surrounding area.
Rabbi Flanzraich is a past president of the Toronto Board of Rabbis and the Rabbinical Assembly-Ontario Region, and the current chair of Israel Bond’s International Rabbinic Cabinet. He is the author of a book on Jewish fundamentalism and a member of the teaching staff at the Zacharias Frankel Rabbinical College in Berlin, Germany. The rabbi devotes time to interfaith dialogue and is a frequent speaker to Christian and Muslim groups.
Despite living in Toronto for over 30 years, he remains an ardent NY Islanders fan. He is married to Lisa and they adore their four beautiful children: Cody, Ari, Talia and Joseph. Evan y”h is lovingly remembered by them all.
Rabbi Louis Sachs
Rabbi Louis Sachs received his rabbinic ordination and M.A. from the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies in Los Angeles, California, in 2017, and holds a B.A. in Religious Studies from the University of California, Davis. Before joining Beth Sholom in October 2024, he served as Associate Rabbi of Beth Tikvah Synagogue, where he earned a reputation as a compassionate, approachable, and forward-thinking spiritual leader.
With extensive experience in pastoral care, teaching, and programming, Rabbi Sachs connects with members of all ages, whether through traditional services, youth and family programs, or innovative avenues of spiritual engagement. Beyond Beth Sholom, Rabbi Sachs has held leadership roles in various organizations in the broader community, including serving as past president of the Ontario Rabbinical Assembly. He now serves on the boards of the International Rabbinical Assembly and the Christian Jewish Dialogue of Toronto.
Rabbi Sachs and his wife, Lauren, are the proud parents of three children, Lillie, Ari, and Reuven, along with their dog, Spinoza. His arrival at Beth Sholom marks an exciting new chapter as the synagogue continues to grow its programs, services, and community outreach.
